: Hey guys. On my way to work today i saw a '77 Maverick on sale for $775.
: Now, as a poor 18 year old dropout working at a pizza place, i dont have
: that much money to spend, but I want a car that is reliable. How reliable
: is a maverick? I dont know much about cars, so i really cant fix it myself
: if it breaks. Its paint is faded, its vinyl top is peeling, and there are
: a few small dents around the door area near the keyhole, but other than
: that, it looks pretty damn good. Its either that or an '88 lebaron for
: $750 (with a HUGE dent in its rear end). I would appreciate any replies.
: Thanks.

In GENERAL, Mavericks are very reliable cars, probably more than just about anything else out of the 70s. However, as with all cars, it depends a lot on how well they are treated and maintained. If you are not a mechanical animal, I recommend having a mechanic check it out BEFORE buying it. If the owner has a problem with this, you know he is hiding something. Even if you don't get this car, I do think you would be wise to search for a Maverick or Comet (the Mecury sister-car) because they are sold at obsenely low prices, even when they are in good shape. One trick I use is just drive around until I find one in good shape that is NOT for sale, and ask the owner if they want to sell it. I have bought two cars this way, and you are much less likely to inherit someone else's problems. If you do get a Maverick, feel free to stop here and ask any questions you need to know. most people here are fairly knowledgeable and extremely helpful. Let us know the outcome, and good luck!
