If the gas gauge reads "Full" all the time, then it is the instrument voltage regulator behind the instument cluster. This is the way you know the regulator has gone bad. Instruments run off of about 1.5 volts. If regulator goes bad, it allows 12 volts to go there.

To check wiring, get a "test" light and turn the ignition key on the car to the "on" position. Take your test light and crawl under the car and pull the plug off of the tank. With the one end of the test light grounded, poke the other end in to the two female holes of the plug. ONE of those holes will make the test light "flash" if the wiring and everything is O.K. to that point. If it is O.K., then it is your sender/float, etc.

: Hey guys My 74 mav gas gage hasn't worked for a long time need to fix it now . Any ideas on where to look for the problem?ie wireing, sending unit or the gage . Thanks Russsmav
