: My brother just put a 3.73 Posi rear-end in his 9" Rear End. He got the rear end at a swap meet from a reputable swapper that sells rebuilt "pumpkins".

: Anyways, as he drives it and turns any corners, it makes really strange noises, like something is rubbing.....but nothing is. He was told that all "posi's" make this noise, and by driving in figure eights it will help break it in and alleviate the noise.

: So, is any of this true? Can anybody shed some light on this?
The only ones that makes any kind of noise is the locker and you can lift the rear wheels off the ground and hold one tire while you turn the other one and it will sound like a rachet wrench, thats normal. Once you have fraction modifer in it on (Limited Slip Only) it should make no noises. Anything else and the bearing (probably axles) are bad. You load them more when you make a turn. Allot of people rebuild the 3rd member, but never change the axle bearings. If not the axles the 3rd member is the problem.
