I just recently read something about this and I think in 1981 302 flywheel counter weight was increased from 26 oz to 50 oz. Therefore, a flywheel that is 1980 or older should work. Ask someone who is more familiar with fords than I am to confirm my info. good luck! By the way, PAW and/or Summitt carry flywheels starting at about $40.00! Try your local parts store as well. Purchasing a new flywheel may not be much more expensive than a used one.
: I just bought a 72 Grabber that needed trans. reworked when i pulled it out i noticed the flywheel was cracked.I need a new one but i was told all 302 flywheels are not the same. The vin.# is 2X93F312324 the no. on the engine is C90E-6015-C how can i tell if this is the factory motor if its not does anybody know what its out of?
