If it is a 455 then it isn't original! If it is a 400 then it may be original!
check the back of the block where the distributor is located and sometimes
the c.i. will be cast into the block. Also, some blocks in some years
had the c.i. cast in the block where the dipstick tube enters the block.
Finally, if the intake is off, the center supports/webbing between the
lifters will have a 00=400 50=350 55=455! If it really is a 455
then you will need to figure out what year it is before the hp can be
determined. To do that, check the machined part of the front of the
block. It is either on the left or right (can't remember) side next to
timing cover. The block code will be something like YS or WS etc.
Sometimes the same codes were used in different years for different size
engines so you may have to decipher the casting info the heads or block
(assuming they have not been changed). Once you find the code and you
know it is a 455 then find a manual that tells you what year they used
that code for the 455 (there are usually several for each year).
: Would anyone know what the horsepower in a 69' pontiac gto with the 455 be?
