Good luck on your project. I have been having a lot of fun with mine even though it has taken 6 months and a lot more money than I had planned it is near compleation. My car started out as a stock 71 merc comet GT. Pulled the 302 and put in a 69 351w. It was fun for a while but now I want to go faster. ( and handle better, and maybe even be able to stop from freeway speeds and stay in my own lane ;).
so I pulled the motor and here is what I now have:
71 black Merc comet.
1969 vintage 351w block
3.85" stroker crank
4.040 over JE/SRP forged pistons
hanging on Eagle H beam forged steel rods
10.7 to 1 comp ratio
= 394.823" motor or 6.47L
Clevite77 bearings
edelbrock performer rpm intake ( maybe a Vic Jr later)
I am ordering my heads tomorrow, I am going to probably be going with 2.05" intake, 1.60" exhaust valve, 290+ cfm at 500 lift .edelbrock Vic. Jr. stage 2 heads. ( because the Twisted Wedge valves will hit my pistons with my cam.)
Cam: a custom ground solid roller with a 290 duration ( 238/244 at .050) 110 centerline. 575 ish lift.
full Roller rocker ( I am selling my old comp cam roller tipped rockers it anyone needs some for for there 302 or 351, they made a big difference on my old motor)
Edelbrock 1407 750 cfm carb. It was only $18 ( shipping charges for my old 600 cfm carb that I traded straight across for this one)
70 C4 tranny with a 3000 rpm stall and a stage 2 shift kit.
B&M Starshifter, full ratchet shifter.
Ford Motor sports balancer
Comp Eng. 8 point roll cage
traction bars
Milodon oil pan
Ford Motor sports flex plate
Hedman 64 stang 351w swap headers
Msd 6-al ignition box
MSD billet magnetic trigger distributor
MSD blaster 2 coil
Auto Meter 5" 160 mph in dash ultra-lite speedo
Auto Meter 5" 10,000 in dash rpm tach
other Auto Meter 2-5/8" ultra-lite gauges
Oil Temp
water temp
fuel level
fuel pres.
oil pres
volt meter
RCI 15 gal fuel cell
XRP push on fuel line
Painless wiring 18 circut wire haress ( I assume I am not the only one who hated the 30 year old wiring :)
painless fuel pump relay
holley 12-803 red comp fuel pump and regulator
duel oil filter relocater kit
rci 5 point harness
89 pralude seats ( hey they were free, and fit good) soon to get reccaro, or like seats.
RX7 back seats ( try it, it looks good )
custom aluminum door panels and dash insert
new carpet and dynamat
APR main studs, rod cap screws, and every other bolt
just some old 10" wide cragers on it now, hope to get american racing wheels soon ( like the ones on bullet)265/50/14 in front and 295/50/15 in back.
granada 11" disk brakes in front
manual steering and brakes
8" rear for now, geting a 9" with atleast 373 gears if not 4.11
right now it is in my paint booth that I built at home geting a compleate strip down and new coat of PPG 2 stage urathane Black.
Fiberglass fenders and deck lid.
If anyone acually read this far, did the original Comet GT's come with the boss looking spoiler?
Flowmaster duel 2 1/4" 2 chamber exhaust with a H pipe.
and probably a thousand other things ( like stereo etc) that I have forgoten.
I have pictures of almost every stage of this project if anyone has any questions for there car. ( disk brakes etc.)
Have fun with your Mav.
