Only two reasons I can think of.... money and time. While buying a parts car is less expensive than a $1500.00 kit (I think that is the price I saw), you are still gonna have to shell out extra cash for the TONS of unforseen problems that will arise. Since you are not removing all of the control arms and the associated suspension components it shouldn't take as long. Granted, the engine needs to come out either way you go so you have room to work and that will take time.

By no means am I saying this is the best or only way to do the job, I am far from an expert. But, you are gonna have to mount the rack somewhere on the car with either suspension system. It would seem to me that if you HAVE to use the car, this part can be done first and the rest of the suspension could be converted over at a later date (assuming the rack will mount in the same place for either system, I do not know if this is the case or not) when the car does not need to be used (in my case, that will be when hell freezes over...).

I'm not sure what I will do woth my car. I want a quicker turn ratio, but, I cannot take my Mav off the road for more than two or three days. I will most likely do the complete conversion at some point. I pointed out that article because it is the only one I have seen on the subject...

: for putting a rack on a mav and retaining a stock suspension setup. i think if you are going to all the trouble to change that you might as well bust out the torch and welder and put on a better IFS system all together....
: the car is gonna be in the shop for awhile anyway if you try to graft on the rack to the mav front. why not go all the way with it??
