I bypassed all of the locking mechanism when i put in the floor shifter, I took out all of the colum shifter stuff which basically renders all of the locking mechanism useless. there is nothing for it to lock against. also this left the car with no nuetral saftey switch and no reverse lock out, i can start it in any gear! I only did it once to see if it would work. so basically my colum ignition is just a key switch like th 69 1/2's are. that is why i was thinking of moving it to the dash and useing the older style of steering colum.
If any one has ever done this please let me know. Or if any one has a wiring diagram for the ignition of both a '72 and a '69 1/2 please let me know.
: : You could, but the wiring would be a hassle. The column switch was for theft & safety. Steering and ignition locking system. If you took the lock out of the column you would have to disable the steering lock and bypass the ignition lockout.
