In reference to 1974 being the only year mavericks had manual disc brakes/ this is not true my 76 Stallion has the same setup and is factory.
: The steering gear boxes have diferent ratio's in them. I changed my (leaking) power steering set up to a manual set up. What you need to get from a doner car is the gear box with the pitman arm, the center link, and the Idler arm. You can get new tie rod ends from any parts stores. I did this to my '72 Grabber with a 302 and it does not feel that much different to drive, the only place it feels diferent is in parking lots, It's a little harder to manuver at very slow speeds. At Hwy speeds it feels more responsive.
: Disc breaks are GREAT, I also did this to my Grabber. What you need to get from any Disc Break Maverick Is the Spindle's and the small hard wear (nut, bolts, brearing caps, break springs and the Allen screw) and the calipers for cores $15.00 each. Then you get NEW bearings, rotors, calipers and hoses for a 1974 manual disc break car and it will work like a charm. I've had mine hooked up for about 17000 miles and love every minute of it. The reason I picked the 74 set up is because it is the only year that the Maverick came with manual disc breaks and the calipers will work with the manual drum break master cylinder and proporsional valve. Good Luck with your upgrades.
