To shift the AOD manually you have to have it in low shift to drive and pull it back in low to hold it in second. It's hard on the transmission over time. I don't know if you can use a different shifter or not, but this is what you have to do in a 5.0 Mustang.

: I'm interested in what is required to swap an AOD in the place of a C-4 in my '72 with a 302. I do a lot of freeway driving and I think the Overdrive would help my mileage a lot. First of all, will it fit? What about flexplates, converters, throttle position levers, etc? Are they as tough as the C-4? This could save me a lot of money since us Californians are now paying $1.60+ for regular unleaded due to 2 refinery fires.
