They won't work they stick out from the heads too far and will contact the shock towers. Just use the headers designed for the 302 Maverick from Hooker and Headman, they are both good company's and sell quallity parts. They won't rub and they're full length headers so they will give you better performance than the Shorties would. You might even find some one who has Tri-Y headers for the 289 they should fit in your Maverick and will give you even better performance than the full length headers.
: Still want to know how I can get Shorties on my 289. Tried to search for it, but it wouldn't go through. Anyone get these shorties to work? Need a new set of headers, and would appreciate the info.
