That sounds right. It should be about the same as for when electronic ignition was introduced. Though they're unrelated systems, they both were introduced for the same purpose--reducing tailpipe emissions. Personally, I'm a fan of electronic ignition--never had to adjust or replace anything other than the cap, rotor, wires, and spark plugs for 20 years. Sometimes (not always), technology makes things better! I just wish automakers didn't go so overboard with making things too complicated, as they do with modern cars. The first generation Ford electronic ignition system is pretty simple and easy to fix. Can't say the same for today's electronics.
