Look closely at your '70 fenders. There's a notch in the front corner where it comes up next to the stone guard behind the bumper. The "big bumpered" cars like the '76 don't have this notch. If you have a good body shop though, they can cut the notch in the newer fenders. The doors will fit just fine, without modifications.
: I compared parts on my 74 Comet to a 73 grabber and a 71 mav, all were the same so far as I could tell. close up inspection, all under and in the fenders, no measurements though, so I can't swear, but I'm pretty damn sure.
