My '77 Comet doesn't have the middle strip--just the one running along the top of the doors, fender, and quarter panel. I have a old '77 Mercury Sales Brochure, and it shows only the four doors having this middle strip, appearantly included in the "exterior decor group" in the custom options list. If anyone's interested, I'll e-mail you a picture showing both a 2-door and a 4-door.
