170/200/250 engine info

I originally had the 170 and replaced it with the 250. I have modified it with headers and a Weber carb.
I found it had a huge difference in power and torque. If you add cid, your going to get more power. Chilton gives the 170 100hp @4200 rpm and the 250 145hp @4000 rpm

The main differences between the 250 and the 170/200 is the deck height. The 250 is more than an inch taller than the 170/200. You might be able to tell which engine it is by the carb. Because of clearance problems, the 250's carb is smaller. This is especially true on models with an egr valve. Look for a carb tag number. You might be able to track it backwards to the engine.

From what I understand, the head and exhaust manifolds are interchangable. I believe that goes for the distributor also.
