The converter slips enough at cruising speeds that the shifts dont seem so hard. BUT ! I have a buddy who put a full manual reverse v.b. in his Comet with a 2,400 rpm "street" converter and it shifted so hard he quit driving the car as much as he did before because he dreaded each time he had to endure another gear change!!! (ended up swapping to a 4 speed.)
