according to my info (cars and parts catalog of american car ID #'s) the 6 for 1971 denotes a convential ( non locking) differential with a 3.00:1 ratio and the 3 is also non locking with a 2.79:1 ratio.
: Was scrounging the junk yards for a rear end for a 70 Mav. Found several 8" one was a four bolt (this is good cuz just bought new four hole wheels) but I would like to know the ratio. The data plate on the door on one has a "6" for the gears and another has a "3". Does anyone know what those numbers mean and is there any reason that these rearends won't fit in my 70? Both rear ends were from 71"s. Would really appreciate advise from anyone. PS I checked the old postings and couldn't find anything on the question.
