Elavation does make a huge difference.. the air is thin. We do run more timing here, but there's no carb adjustment or timing adjustment that makes up for the thin air. Look at Drag Racing records... especially the stock classes... all of the records are at sea level... most in Dallas and houston... Houston is right at sea level. When the NHRA goes to Denver, they change the index in all of the super classes.. like Super Gas is a 9.90 class at most tracks... in Denver the index is a 10.40 because all of the cars slow down. Even going to Pheonix we go about 4 tenths faster. The faster cars do not slow down as much as the slower cars... it makes a big difference on 14 second cars compared to a Pro Stocker
As for my Maverick, it has a Ford Motorsport E303 Roller Cam ( '87 302 ) on Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pro DOT tires... hooks pretty good... with a 150 shot of NOS it ran 12.50's here in El Paso. I drive it everyday 70 miles round trip. I live in Chaparral NM and drive here to MSD in El Paso.

: I was reading Martin's drag strip messages, and I was surprised that the elevation change would improve the car's time from 14.52 to 13.30's. That's pretty good times Martin, is that with the stock cam, and are you running slicks? I'm also a home head porter. Me and my friend are going to race his '65 falcon at the track this summer, only problem is that falcons have very small wheel wells, so we're gonna have to do something to make the slicks fit.
