...Air mass drops by roughly 4% per 1000 feet elevation gain. This is the "Dry Adiabatic Rate",a hoary old meteorolgy term. This also roughly applies to temperature changes, though I don't recall the constant. So you can estimate that if you drive from LA (Sea Level) over Vail Pass (11,000 ft) your car will lose roughly 44% of its power.

: I was reading Martin's drag strip messages, and I was surprised that the elevation change would improve the car's time from 14.52 to 13.30's. That's pretty good times Martin, is that with the stock cam, and are you running slicks? I'm also a home head porter. Me and my friend are going to race his '65 falcon at the track this summer, only problem is that falcons have very small wheel wells, so we're gonna have to do something to make the slicks fit.
