Its not that drastic, maybe the guy is selling the cam so he can get a bigger one. I've seen this and have considered it before. It also depends on how much he's selling the cam for. If its in the $100 dollar range, forget it, just buy a new one. But if its in the $50 range, its probably worth it. I don't think i'd buy a used cam from someone I didn't know ( a person could easily lie about the lifters being in order).

It's not really that big of a risk. A poor cam or out-of-order lifters CAN'T "mess up your engine." Simple enough, if you assemble it, and the motor runs like crap and doesn't have any power, I guess your just out of luck. You'll either be swapping back the old cam, or buying a new one, no permanant damage.

and by the way, The fun will never be over, as long as you own a Maverick!!
