Mine was Ziebarted and it has rust NOWHERE on the body except right where you're talking about on the bottom parts of the trunk. If you're looking for a cheap way to keep rust from continuing, try Rubberizer....i use it on everything and it seems to keep rust away pretty well. It costs 2-5 bucks a can at any auto store or you can even get it at k-mart (they have their own brand!).
No chemical reaction...it's just spray on rubber that's near impossible to get off once it dries.
by the way, my RUST FREE 69.5 Mav with a i6 200/auto will be going up for sale soon, so tell a friend! Everything has been replaced, rebuilt engine/trans, new steering box, new brakes all around, new bearings, new radiator, electric ignition....all it needs is paint, and that's going to be a month or so.
