Dan, Went back to the junk yards today and found all kinds of good stuff and found lots of rear ends. Thanks to your info I have been able to identify the specific ratios. The lowest I have found is the (6) which I believe is a 3:00 to 1. The problem (if it is one) is that it is from a 72. One yard guy (not the one with the rear end that I'M interested in) said that they are interchangeable for all years and at the most, the change would require a special u-joint. Do you know if this is accurate? It is a 8" and four lug so would be about right for my Son's Mav. Thanks (I promise this will be the last dumb question (on rear ends at least!).
: Hey no problem getting you this info I am glad to help when i can :) i will list all rearends available in 70 and 71 as they are the same from what i am reading.
: here goes
: O-2.50:1
: 2-2.75:1
: 3-2.79:1
: 4-2.80:1
: 5-2.83:1
: 6-3.00:1
: 9-3.25:1
: A-3.50:1
: B3.07:1
: If you need anymore info just let me know and I will get it too ya if i can.
: : Dan, Thanks for the info. I hate to be greedy, but, would it be too much trouble for the codes for the other ratios? I would appreciate it as I am still looking for the rear end, the old 200/6 could use some lower gears. This mav belongs to my son and he is aching for something a little more exciting and his old dad can't afford an upgrade to the v8 yet. Thanks
: : : Was scrounging the junk yards for a rear end for a 70 Mav. Found several 8" one was a four bolt (this is good cuz just bought new four hole wheels) but I would like to know the ratio. The data plate on the door on one has a "6" for the gears and another has a "3". Does anyone know what those numbers mean and is there any reason that these rearends won't fit in my 70? Both rear ends were from 71"s. Would really appreciate advise from anyone. PS I checked the old postings and couldn't find anything on the question.
