Chris' explanation seems more likely, in that case. We posted at the same time, so I didn't read his idea when I wrote you mine. All the same, it wouldn't hurt to check those springs first, funny things happen when they aren't holding on securely. Besides, it's the cheaper and easier of the two suggestions so far.
