: pull of the aircleaner and look down the carb to see if your getting fuel squirting into the venturis of the carb (aka Barrels or bores) if no fuel check the fuel filter for clog if its real old replace it try the above again...still no fuel take the line of from the carb that comes from the pump put a hose on it and run it to a container and see if fuel comes out while cranking should squirt out in pulses ...no fuel small amount of fuel or not consistant replace the pump... #1..remove the line to the fuel pump and see if theres fuel it will run out..no fuel blow low pressure air threw the line with the gas gap removed and in a well ventelated area....THIS IS ALL CONSIDERING THERES GAS IN THE TANK

: I am in the service and I have my 72 Maverick sit for two months while I was at sea. I returned and tried to start my car and it wouldn't catch. I sprayed some engine starting fluid in the "carb" and it would start but then die........i was told it could be the fuel pump, any ideas? Is there a site to see the engine? diagrams? I know virtually nothing about cars......... Thanks!
