: : Thought some of you might be interested in knowing that Testors Corp. is re-releasing the old Johan 1/24 scale 1971 Comet pro-street kit. Its due out this month. Maybe someone knows if there's a Maverick conversion available for it somewhere on the model car aftermarket?

: I ordered it about a month ago and I was thinking of trying to make it look like a Mav.

I have a good collection of vintage maverick and comet model car kits.
To the best of my knowledge, there was never a factory stock Comet kit (only the
drag racing version soon to be reissued). That is not true of the Maverick:

Johan issued a stock 200-6 1970 Coupe model in 1970. After that, the kit was slightly
re-tooled to be the equivalent of the Comet Pro Stock kit, except that this drag
racing version had the twin driving light Grabber grill! There were also a few
special racing editions of the kit, like the 'Fast Eddie Schartman" version that I have.
A fellow in Colorado, years ago, offered a resin conversion hood for the Grabber (twin snorkels). I have
one of those Grabber hoods and it is an excellent job. He's no longer in business
to the best of my knowledge.

Hope this helps.
