the starvation of #1 and #6 is probably the key. A lot of people expect the Ford 6 to run as smooth as a V-8...impossible.
=========================================
: ...The inline six is inherently one of the smoothest running engines due to the firing cycle. That is why it has been the preferred design for Jaguar, Aston Martin, Mercedes Benz,and BMW among others. The small Ford may run rough because of the lame intake manifold design that causes fuel starvation at the #1 & #6 cylinders;)
: : By design, 6 cyl engines do not run that smooth to begin with. A well tuned 6 cyl engine will still wobble and shake. The best thing is to try to adjust the fuel/air mixture and the idle to where it runs the "roughest"...but it will still run a little rough.
: : This may not be your problem, but I know that this bugs the heck out of me on my 6 -banger
