as far as the bottom end goes..
due to the shortness of the throw on a 302 crank they dont seem to
have much problem with balance under 6000 rpm.the weakest part seems to be the nose out where the balancer is. make sure the dampener is in good
shape and watch for (crud build up) on the external weight if so equiped. the cam your looking at with hyd. lifters will pull from about
2000 to 5000 rpm. if its a solid lift cam it might only go to
4700 or so but will have more area under the torque and hp curve.
if u have taken any trig.in school area under a curve is a good thing to remember.it will give u a lot of insight on engine building.
how your engine runs it a total mathmatic process and it sux to have to
try to relearn all this stuff when your over 30 and your brain is a little dried up.( just to rag on myself for thinking i would never need
all this math crap in school) .have fun ..scully
