: The 8.7:1 means that there is 8.7 times more cylinder volume when the piston is at the bottom than there is when it's at the top. The 150 psi could change simply by putting in a different cam or if you have a broken ring. Since the PSI can change and the compression ratio can't, then there really is no way to 'check' your compression ratio. If the book says its 8.7:1, then it probably is with the exception of carbon buildup in the combustion chamber. Your manual should also have give you a number for what your PSI reading should be and thats what you want to check.
