: I am a/c certified and from what I am reading it sounds like the guy in his garage is just gonna get a couple cans of freon and recharge your a/c and hope it works. You might want to try this as it might actually get you thru the summer. But it might also leak out overnite and you are out the cash. Also you might ask him if he would install a r134A retrofit kit. I just did it on an old Impala last week and it has worked great on it. You can buy the retrofit kits at AutoZone and other parts stores.

: : My a/c hasn't worked since I got my car, which was no problem 'cause I bought it in november, but now that summer's here its getting to be a little annoying, especially since I live in south texas. It blows air fine, it just doesn't cool it. I took it to the shop a long time ago and they said that it was a freon leak possibly in the compressor (or something like that), that it would require more testing, and that the minimum cost would be $350. I don't have 350 lying around right now. Then I talked to another guy who does some side work out of his garage and he said he'd do it for $60 (but then he hasn't actually seen the problem.) If its something easy I might be able to do it, but I have almost no equipment. any ideas? I know I'm being vague, but I don't know much more about it than that (not too mechanically inclined).

Have you installed any Autozone compressors??? Had many problems with them??? I've heard bad things about their compressors. Just don't wanna go through $300 in freon before I get it right.
