I'm not gonna get in a pissing contest, who's engine is better, blah blah blah...
the shorter stroke revs higher, faster, and loses torque LATER, although it never makes as much as an equally matched 302. same cam, same heads, same compression, same carb, balanced bottom end, the 289 will make near the same power as the 302 at a higher rpm, and yes, the 289 will have consistantly less torque. seems to me the higher revs make for a better race, but that's a personal preference. I don't want a 351 because it doesn't rev as freely as my 302. wanna argue with that? it takes more gas and air to meet the same rpm as a 302. makes more power, but sucks my wallet a little more too. you're right TL, facts are facts, 289 makes a little less power at a higher rpm. big friggin deal. revs higher and easier.
