the 221 used the same stroke as the 289

just a smaller bore, I think the 221 cranks are interchangeable, but I'm not sure on that. I know where I can get 221, 289 and 302 cranks for $75, rods are what worry me, half of the "289" parts you find are the exact same as the 302, even the same part number.
What I had thought I might do is 221 crank with 302 rods and dome pistons for a decent compression ratio, probably would be bored over for the new pistons.
My 74(like 73-76) block has a taller deck than standard 302's for lower compression. I'm wondering how the cylinder wall load would be affected by this combination. One hell of an original breed critter to say the least...
or a mutt, depending on your point of view.
I'd like to graze on 300 cubes with a 2.87 stroke and a bigger bore, makes for an odd power curve, should be better milage, and still have about the same power as a 302 with the short stroke rev characteristics of the 289.
