There are little plastic valve umbrellas in the heads....after years of use, they tend to get brittle and break. When you rev the motor, they bounce against the valve covers. The only way to check is to take off the valve cover and look or sometimes you find small pieces of plastic in the oil when you change it. But there are about a million possibilities (another would be a hole in your paper air filter). Go easy on it til you get those fluids changed!!!!!!!!!!!
