Hey, if you want to remain 100% streetable, DO NOT use a spool. Lincoln Lockers (welded spider gears) are even worse. This is because with a totally locked rearend, there is no differentiation around a corner. Both tires are always spinning at the same speed, so you end up dragging the outside tire around turns. Tires wear VERY quickly. The best route to serious traction is a full Detroit Locker. These extreme duty units provide fully locked operation in the straightaway, yet differentiate to allow cornering. One drawback, however is the fact that the ring & pinion need to be re-setup. Posi-type units are ok, but they all will blow the clutches apart eventually. The best middle of the road traction adder is a locker such as a Powertrax, from Summit. These lockers simply replace the spider gears in your rearend. Instalation is very simple & straight-forward. You end up with fully locked operation in the straights yet still allow you to turn corners. Complete they're less than $300. I've got on in the 9-in in my '79 F150 & haven't had a problem.
