The subframe "disappears" into the floor, and you can't really see it but that's what they were welding it onto...the subframe. And yeah, you're right....it leaves a big hump in the middle of the rear seat's foot space--but in the end, it's better than having your car collapse or get twisted in half!! I don't see how you could get carpet OVER it, but then again it is chrome plated so it wouldn't look too bad....
