I had a similar problem with my carb. I just went to the part store and bought a rebuild kit. It was 10 bucks, and come with all the gaskets and some other parts. Now it works great, it took about an hour to rebuild, most of the time was used cleaning all the crap that was in it. Now it sounds runs great, it starts instantly, my choke isn't sticking anymore and it took care of a leak I had in the float bowl. A new carb will run you about 80 - 90 bucks, at least down here in San Antonio, TX. I'm sure your rings do have some to do with your problem, and I was definaly suggest rebuilding the engine, or replacing it with some more power. I have a 200 in a '71 4 door, but it sound's like the same prob I have! The 250's Carb will probably be a bit more than the 200's, but shouldn't be too big of a differance.

: hey guys or gals I have a 70 maverick with a 250 inline 6. well it seems I have a reacurring problem. Sometimes and I state sometimes, my car don't want to idle. I think that it's the carb but i have done all the regular tuning options ie:spark plugs, fuel fliter, etc: And most of the time when i shut the car off it trys real hard to stay on. Well if it is the carb what should i replace with? One more thing, my piston rigs are probabally gone due to the fact i'm getting fouled plugs often and oil in the chamber, should i just get a overhaul and what kind of price should i pay for this to be done or should i just get a new motor all together(like a 302) and how would i find one? any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!
