Definitly get the cap...I am pretty sure a locksmith can make a key for it no problem.

: I was just down at the junkyar... err... Salvage yar... err... "Auto recycling Center," and came accross a LOCKING Comet gascap. One problem: no key. Anyone know if a key be made for these things if you don't have the original?
