Good news indeed. Of course, if these companies realize that there is a market for reproduction Maverick/Comet parts, they'll change their tune pretty quick. Some other things that appear to interchange between early Mustangs and Maverick/Comets:

1. Exterier door handles (I ordered a set from the Autokrafter's Maverick catalog, and discovered the box says '67-'68 door handle. A comparison with my existing handles (I own both a '67 Mustang and a '76 comet) shows them to indeed be the same.

2. The trunk latch appears to be the same between my '67 Mustang and my '76 comet (based on appearances and exterier measurements. I haven't actually tried to physically replace the latch in my Comet with one from a '67 Mustang to be sure, but if you are in need, they look close enough that it would be worth a try--there are several mustang vendors who reproduce these for early Mustangs.

3. The door latch mechanism (not the handles, but the actual mechanism that holds the door closed) also looks like it will interchange (again, based on comparison between my '67 and '76). Some Mustang vendors have started reproducing the '67 door latches, so this would be another area worth trying if you can't find a good salvage yard piece. Worst case, you try it and it doesn't fit, you can return it for a refund or credit.

4. The power steering slave cylinder (power cylinder) and the power steering control valve may POSSIBLY interchange between a '70 Mustang and up to the early '76 Maverick/Comet. The significance of this is that some Mustang catalogs are now carrying brand new reproduction power steering control valves and slave cylinders. They're a little more expensive, but if you like new vs. rebuilt, it's definitely worth considering. I don't own a '70 Mustang, but I have noticed that the stocking numbers are the same in the Auto Krafters catalogs for the Mustang and Maverick catalogs. I have noticed that parts they list with the same numbers are often the same physical part. Again, it's worth a try--hopefully someone with an interchange manual can verify it (the one I have doesn't mention if these two parts interchange or not).

5. The water pump definitely interchanges between the early 70s (up to 73) Mustang with the 250 six engine and the Maverick/Comets (up to '77) with the 250 six. The Mustang vendor NPD carries BRAND NEW (not rebuilt) water pumps for the 250 six. I have sneaked a peek at a parts interchange manual and verified that this one definitely works.

By the way, JC Whitney carries brand new water pumps that fit the 70 to '74 200 six engine. I've used one in my '67 Mustang (yes, it's a 200 six) and it's been a year so far without any problems. They also carry ones for the 302 and 351 engines as well.

6. NPD (and some other Mustang vendors) carry reproduction exhaust manifolds for the 200 and 250 six engines. These also interchange with the early Maverick/Comet 200 and 250 sixes up until '74. Again, this is according to the one parts interchange manual I have.
