:The timing chain is shot, if you can do it yourself replace it, if you're going to pay someone else, take it easy and wait until May, the lifter is plugged up from slughe. Just change the oil and keep an eye on it until you do the engine swap in May.

I have a lifter sticking, it used to be very loud, and now I can only hear it stick once every minute or so. I changed the oil, and used a thick additive. I hope the thick oil will help break up some of the gunk in the engine. Anyway...It's a 200, I was wonder if I should do a valve job, and just replace everything, or should I just leave it alone, and put in a 302. I'll be doing the swap in May 2000 most likely. I think if I change the oil every 3000 miles, like I'm suppose to, the problem should remedy it self. What do you guys think?

: The other half. A couple of months ago, when I pulled the oil pan off, I noticed that my timing chain has alot of play in it. I can move it about 3/4 of an inch from center. Is this normal, or is it extremely worn. I'm pretty sure it has never been replaced, and the car has 127,017 miles on it. Should I replace it, and what is involved in replacing it? I've never done anything mechanical to a car, but everything I've done with the mav has worked well, and I'm learning everyday.
: This is what I think I need to do, tell me where I'm wrong.

: I know I have to pull the timing chain cover. I assume their is a gear on the end of the cam that needs to come off, and the new chain would go on the gear on the crank shaft and the gear on the cam, and slide back into place. Do I set the #1 piston all the way up, and how do I make sure the cam stays in place.

: Thanks for the advice.
