:the heads are the same , the only difference is the air pump smog holes, and they are put in the heads after the engines is assembled, so they are in a way left & right after the factory assembly, but they are the same heads, only become unquie because of the smog adapter. If you were to get another head to replace one, you'd just have to change the adapter to make it match up.

Hey guys, I have a question for you. Okay, I was helping a buddy put back on the heads after he had had some work done on them. I noticed something that struck me as odd. I don't know too much about ford engines so I'm not sure if this is right or not, but on the drivers side of the engine, the sparkplugs are angled back. But on the opposite side the spark plugs are angled forward. Is this right? This made the exhauset manifold fit a little differently on one side than on the other. I thought maybe the heads were simply the same, but they both have the emissions are pump intake bolts on the back? If this is the correct configuration for the heads, why did ford do this?
