You could also try looking into Hemmings Motor News. They have a HUGE number of listings of suppliers and restoration services for the antique and old car restoration hobbyist. I recently purchased their 1999 Almanac, and I have seen adds for companies that will refurbish gas tank sending units.
If that turns out to be too steep, you could always try finding a working salvage yard unit. A good auto parts interchange manual is helpful to identify what other cars' units interchange with yours.
