Several points in the I-6 vs. V8 argument. First of all, T.L. continually stresses that a 300 inline six is a totally different engine from a 250. My response? Very good T.L.! That is correct. The 300 is totally different in design, and has far more power. If you read Craig Selvey's bit about the Mav powered by a 300 engine, you should understand my reasoning. I am assuming that a 300 truck engine was shoe-horned into that Mav at National Trail Raceway last year. With a number a modifications, there is no reason that the 300 truck engine would give a 302 a royal ass-whipping. Just ask any truck owner. Second, allow me to correct you on your comment about F-250's &F-350's lacking the 300 inline six. Strike that from your mind! Where did you get this idea? This engine was a favorite in many an F-600 Dump-Truck in the late 60's&early 70's. Not offered in a wimpy little F-250? Utter Hogwash!! Peruse your Chilton manuals. Last but not least, my Maverick has a stock 302. This is a nice engine, but is pretty darn wimpy for an eight. Do you call 0-60 in 10.5 seconds fast. A 300 is that fast in a pickup. I don't know about you, but based on my Maverick experience, I'd hate to have a 302 in a pickup. The 302 is quiet and smooth, but is a wimp!! For performance, I would at least take the time to install a 351W. This motor hauls ass, and will definitely outrun the 300. Not the 302. A 302 has too short of a stroke to really pull with any real cahonis. Ask any pickup owner , and they will tell you this.
