I have done this swap using Tubular Automotive
headers into a 70 Maverick. I too tried using the
old style motor mounts. They lay on a shelf in the
cellar now. I talked to the owner of T.A. about a
few problems. First he told me that the headers
were originally designed for fitting a Cleveland
into a 64 Falcon engine bay. The Falcon bay I
understand is different(May be a little wider).
I have 1 of my crossunder tubes hitting dead into
the oil pan. He sent me an assortment of mandrel
bends so I can fix it myself. I have big time
interference with my tie rods. The inner tie rod
on one side will hit a tube dead on causing the
steering not to turn in one direction. He suggests
equally bending the pitman and idler arms to clear
the tubes but either way you bend them you will
hit a tube. I made my own mounts out of steel and
use neoprene donuts for insulators. I bought a V8
rear crossmember but found I could make the 6 cyl
one work better. I do wish I had cut some of my
inner fender wells out because my header bolts
hit the wells. My advise to you is TAKE YOUR TIME.
Take each problem 1 at a time. I am still stuck
on some of the things that I talked about, but
rest assured that this drivetrain looks incredible
in the Maverick/Comet. Please E-Mail me anytime
you have a question and if I have already found a
way to solve a problem I will be glad to pass it
on to you.
