When Pinto was introduced, the standard engine was the 1.6 liter four cylinder from the British Ford Cortina. Optionally, you could get the 2.0 liter overhead cam four from the German Ford Taunus. The four speed gearbox was also imported. Other than similar looking tail lights (which, by the way, are not exactly the same), the two don't have much in common at all. Frankly, I consider that a good thing.
