A 2.79 rear end is geared so that the drive shaft rotates 2.79 times for 1 rotation of the main gear. 3.00 is the same meaning. As to which one you should use wel...........for the 9in. rear end
If you intend to drive on the street and commute back and forth to work the 3.07, 3.00, 2.80, 2.79 and 2.75 are great. not fast off the line but a good top end speed and good fuel economy. If you have to chirp the tires every time you start and love doing street burnouts the the 3.18, 3.50, 3.55 and 3.78 are fun. If your are serious about racing and only drive the car to shows go with a 3.91 ,4.10 or 4.11. Circle track. For a short track (under 3/8mi.) a 6.55 or 6.88 run great. More than 3/8 mi. I would run a 5.66 or 5.79. ford offred so many different rear end gears and there is a plethora of after market parts. The proper selection is really all in what you need the car to do.

: Whats the differance between a 2.79:1 and a 3.00:1 rear end.
: Which is better for what?
