Just my opinion -

While the Windsor engine does produce a noticably more torque than the 302 (having owned a 69 Mach I with a 351W 4 bbl engine in it I can testify that it is probably the best "street performance" engine that Ford made). It has a lot of mid range torque which is perfect for a street car.

However, modifying your Mav to fit this engine is not worth the hassle. I think you'd be better off investing your $$$ in some performance pieces which will make your 302 scream, and avoid the headaches of finding headers (and installing them), a performance intake manifold and distributor, etc... A nicely built 302 with a good tranny and 3.50 - 4.30 gears in the rear will have no problem giving any car fits in the quarter mile.

As for whether to switch over to a 9" rear - if you are looking to do any performance enhancements to your car, a good 9" traction lok, with a miminum ratio of 3.50 is essential. Also, traction bars are a must. Not only do they help the car launch quicker, they also prevent driveline parts from breaking.

Just my two cents.
