: Back spacing on a rim is the distance from the bolt flange area on the inside of the rim to the inside edge of the rim. On most rims this distance is 4 to 4.5 inches. However, don't forget that the side wall of most tires go beyond this point and that depending upon the rim/tire size combination, this amount can be an inch or two. As such the true back spacing of the rim/tire combo should be measured by taking a rear tire off, laying it outside sidewall down on a flat surface, taking a straight edge and laying it across the inside sidewall and using a ruler to measure the distance from the backside of the flange to the bottom of the straight edge. Now you know the back spacing of your tire/rim. To measure the backspacing possible on your Mav, hold the straight edge up against the rear drums (parallell with the leaf springs) and use a ruler to measure the distance from this edge to the outside edge of the leaf spring. Subtract 3/4" from this number and that's the amount of back spacing possible.

: A good tire dealer will be able to help you out with all these details. I deal with a Goodyear dealer who was able to show me a chart with all the diameters, recommended rim sizes, and sidewall widths. I plugged my numbers in and got tires that fit perfectly. 235/60/15s in the front and 275/60/15s in the back ( I opened up the wheel wells in the back to accomadate these tires).
What I asked was will a 225/70/14 give me any clearance problems?
