As someone stated previously; they're are a lot of high-end shocks out there (KYB, Koni, Rancho, etc.) but really, good handling has to come from the suspension & tires. Personally, I'd go with V-8 front springs, and four leaf springs (instead of the stock 3). Then install a 7/8" front anti-roll bar ("sway-bar") and a 3/4" rear anti-roll bar; and just go with some AutoZone-special gas shocks which are already better than the original equipment on Mavericks. They are cheap ($10 each/front, $20 each/rear) and have a lifetime warranty to boot! Polygraphite bushings are a big help as well. After all that, you'll have great handling but it still won't handle like a new Vet or Viper. There's just no fooling mother nature...

: I'm just looking for good handling. I just bought bigger tires and have about 1/2 inch of room to spare so it would be nice if they were a little stiffer too.

: : I agree, gas shocks are the best place to start. It's still part of the ol' "hot rodder's creed"...'How fast you wanna go? How much do you wanna spend?'
: : : My Mav still has the original shocks on it. This is something I'm willing to spend a little money on since shocks aren't too expensive. What are the best kind to get?
