I personally know someone who ordered a 1981 Ford Mustang II Cobra (they didn't know any better) in '81. They had them delete the Cobra (snake) decals and the hood scoop. The car was black with Recaro seats and a 302. They also deleted all name plates/decals so the car didn't say Mustang II anywhere on it. There is one thing though that they wanted deleted and Ford refused to do it; and that was the rear spoiler. I don't know why they wanted to delete it in the first place because it looks far better with it...

BTW-the car was a real piece of crap--nothin' but problems...

: Yes, it might be possible to have ordered the car without the rear spoiler, but back then (like today),Ford makes it difficult and costly to delete certain items from a package. My father has been a Ford Dealer since 1958, so I have a working knowledge of these things (if anybody really cares). To delete some items will actually cost you more than leaving the item on the car. Back in 1993 I wanted a new Mercury Topaz. The package I wanted with the factory alumminum wheels also included a rear luggage rack (Yech!!) I didn't want the luggage rack, but it would have cost a WHOLE LOT MORE to delete it. So I got the car, and found a like car on the lot without a luggage rack and swapped trunk lids. Now there is a Ford Tempo running around out there with a luggage rack it wasn't supposed to have. I suppose this same scenario could have also take place with the rear spoiler on that Maverick.

: : The owner's father probably ordered it the way they wanted it--could have been a one-of-a-kind...

: : : It is supposed to have the wing. If it doesn't, I would be really surprised.

: : : : Mustang? As for the '70 grabber Craig is correct.I know of one '70 Grabber (Grabber Blue) this car has been owned by the same family since new. No grabber hood or wing, the owners father worked at the plant were they made mavericks.
