That's interesting; right now I'm using a fancy cap with the "short horns" on it for my '73. It's not however, a '73 cap. I believe it is from an earlier model. It fits and looks very nice but it is a non-locking cap. I sealed my vapor recovery system and got rid of the evaporative canister. The cap is NOT vented so when you open it, it makes a "suction" noise but that doesn't bother me at all. My father's '91 Oldsmobile does the exact same thing and it was made that way...

: I have found that different years and emissions "options" had differences in the cap. It's the 'tabs' that "lock" the cap on the filler neck. It also seems to have to do with vented and non-vented systems. The tabs on some (early??) 'reach' only a short way into the neck, with only 2 tabs and others (later??) a long way in with 2 sets of tabs. I learned it the hard way after paying $10 for a cap that won't work on either of my Mavs!!! It's a "fancy" one with only the "shorthorns" on it. Live to learn I always say...
: : Oh my gosh; something else I actually don't know (this is scary) What's the difference? Long reach, short reach??? I'm sooo embarassed.
: : BTW: I don't have the cable either but you really don't need it...

: :
: : : Me too, I've got the "MAVERICK" type on my Grabber but the cable part of it was long gone when I got the car. I'd like to get one for the Hot Rod too. I'll keep my eyes and ears open for the locking style in my "travels". Is yours the "long" or "short" reach type of cap/filler neck??

: : : : Yea, mine has the gas cap (I added it of course). Some say Maverick on them while others just have the insignia. An aquaintence of mine has (get this) an original LOCKING Maverick gas cap. It is the only one I've ever seen and the peckerhead won't sell it...

: : :
: : : : : How about a "deluxe" fuel cap assy ? It's the "fancy" one with the plastic "crest" insert and an attaching cable that secures it to the filler neck...and has "shallow" locking tabs.
: : : : : BTW were you the one looking for the 'sport' wheel horn button with the 'Stallion' head on it?
: : : : :
: : : : : : Okay here's the situation Maverites! I've got Twenty Five (You're not reading this wrong!) Mavericks and Comets that are sitting in my backyard. So needless to say I have a ton o parts. If you guys need something email me either here or at
