: Hey! This place is great! Its good to know some people out there actually care about the Mav. I currently am working on a '70 Mav 2 dr. I've got the Grabber hood and spoiler installed, as well as Grabber door panels and grille. I recently had it painted black and this summer, when I get a job, I'm going to drop in a 302. already have the motor mounts and everything.
: I'm 17 and my Maverick has been a great first car. ( I picked it up for $500 with Progressive mags and all the above-mentioned Grabber accesories. He was a friend of my dad's so he gave me a great deal.) I't kind-of neat because my dad's first car was a Mav and now I'm driving one! I'll definitely be back...

I'm also a bit of a newcomer to this message board, but I've owned a '76 Comet since 1984 (it too was my first car). It had 74,322 miles when I got it from my sister, and now has over 181,000 miles on it 14 years later. It's funny--my sister thought it would only last me a year or two. She never would have guessed back then that it would have lasted so long. I no longer
use it for daily transportation (I'd hate to lose it in an accident), but I do make a point of taking it out during non-rush hour periods to keep it running. I never doubted that the Maverick/Comet is a good car, but I did get a lot of teasing from my friends for holding onto the old car when I no longer needed it. I have noticed that for a lot of people, "collector" cars
mean either cars from the '50s or older, or '60s muscle cars. I guess that's part of why many people I know never thought that Mavericks/Comets would be worth holding onto. Personally, I believe any car can be collectible if there's something unique or special about it (or enough people think they're worth keeping). Glad to know I'm not the only person out there who wants
to preserve these cars!

PS--Out of curiousity, what's the hightest mileage anyone's gotten out of a Maverick or Comet without having to do a major overhaul? My comet hasn't needed one yet, and doesn't look like it will any time soon. I have noticed that Mavericks and Comets seem to be pretty indestructible if not badly abused. I'd love to hear other people's "war stories" about their car.
